Timing is everything in justice. Amaziah does not rush; he waits until the kingdom is 'confirmed in his hand.' This is wisdom. A new king cannot afford to execute his predecessor's killers the instant he takes the throne—his grip is too weak, his court too fractious. But as soon as his authority solidifies, he moves. The assassins are slain. It is a kind of piety, an honoring of his father through the vindication of his blood. Amaziah will not let that crime echo unanswered into his reign.
Yet there is also a danger lurking here: the desire for vengeance, even when justified, can become a ruling passion. Amaziah acts; he acts with purpose.
