In Hoshea's final year the city falls, and Assyria carries Israel away into exile, scattering the people across far provinces: Halah, the region of the Habor river at Gozan, and the cities of the Medes. The northern kingdom, ten tribes strong, is uprooted from the land of promise and lost among the nations.
