What Does 2 Samuel 11:14 Mean?
When persuasion fails, David turns to murder. In the morning he writes to Joab and sends the letter by Uriah himself, who unknowingly carries his own death sentence in his hand.
The image is unbearable in its irony: the loyal soldier becomes the courier of the order to kill him. Sin, once it sets its course, grows colder and more cruel, sacrificing the innocent to protect itself. David has traveled from a glance to adultery to deceit and now to a betrayal that abuses the very faithfulness Uriah showed.
