What Does 2 Samuel 13:17 Mean?
Amnon summons an attendant and, refusing even to name her, calls Tamar "this woman." He commands that she be put out and the door bolted behind her. The one he lured in he now expels like a stranger, sealing the door against the sister he has wronged.
The contempt is total: he will not so much as speak her name. Sin that uses a person discards them as worthless afterward. Yet what Amnon treats as nothing, God treasures as precious. In heaven's sight Tamar is no "this woman" but a beloved daughter, known by name, her worth untouched by his cruelty.
