The aim of Paul's prayer is that the name of the Lord Jesus would be glorified in the believers, and they in Him, all according to the grace of God and Christ.

What Does 2 Thessalonians 1:12 Mean?

Paul names the goal of everything he has just prayed for: "that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you." A person's name in Scripture stands for who they are; so Paul longs that the very character and honor of Jesus would shine through the lives of these believers. Their growth, endurance, and good works all serve this single, glorious end.

Wonderfully, the glory flows both ways: the Lord is glorified in them, "and ye in him." To be joined to Christ is to share in His honor, lifted up into His own glory by grace. And Paul is careful to ground all of this where it belongs, "according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ." Nothing here is achieved; it is all gift. The chapter closes by naming grace as the soil in which every promise grows.
