What Does Acts 10:26 Mean?
Peter raises him immediately. Whatever Cornelius intended, Peter will not receive what looks like worship — Stand up; I myself also am a man. The servants of God in Scripture consistently deflect such reverence (Acts 14:14-15; Revelation 19:10).
The messenger is not the message. Peter has just been taught not to call any man common; Cornelius must now learn not to make any man more than a man. Honor belongs to God, and true ministers stand people on their feet, face to face, and point past themselves to Christ.
