Acts 11:10 Meaning and Explanation

Three times the sheet descends, three times command and protest are exchanged, and then all is drawn up again into heaven. In Scripture a matter is established by repeated witness, and God graciously triples His word for a reluctant servant, until the lesson cannot be mistaken.

Peter, who once denied his Lord three times and was three times asked if he loved Him (John 21), now receives a threefold lesson in the breadth of God's mercy. The Lord knows how slowly hearts move and how deep habits run, and He repeats Himself without growing weary. When the teaching is finished the vision withdraws — and the application is already standing at the gate (v. 11).
