Acts 11:25 Meaning and Explanation

The work outgrows one encourager, and Barnabas knows the man it needs. Saul, converted years before, had been sent home to Tarsus when plots arose against his life (9:30). Barnabas — who once vouched for Saul before wary apostles (9:27) — now goes to find him, and the wording suggests a diligent search.

This short verse is one of the quiet hinges of history: without Barnabas's errand to Tarsus there is, humanly speaking, no mission from Antioch and none of the letters that would one day be written from its sending. The kingdom advances when a servant secure in God's grace goes looking for the gifts God has placed in someone else — and gladly shares the work.
