What Does Acts 11:27 Mean?
Luke opens a new scene: prophets — believers who spoke messages from God by the Spirit — come from Jerusalem to Antioch. The young church receives not only teachers (v. 26) but these messengers as well, a gift promised through Joel and poured out from Pentecost onward (2:17).
The road between Jerusalem and Antioch now carries traffic both ways; soon Antioch will send relief back along it (vv. 29-30). A living church both gives and receives — no congregation is meant to stand alone. And the timing shows God's kindness: before the famine comes, His word comes, so His people can prepare. The Lord who knows tomorrow equips His church today.
