What Does Acts 13:25 Mean?
As John completed his course, he openly disclaimed any greatness for himself, asking the people who they thought he was and answering plainly that he was not the awaited One. He pointed beyond himself to the one coming after him, whose sandals he was not worthy even to untie.
True greatness humbles itself before Christ. John, honored by crowds, refused every glory that was not his, directing all eyes to the Savior. To loose another's sandals was the task of the lowest servant, and John counted himself unworthy of even that before Jesus. This is the posture of every faithful witness: to decrease that Christ may increase, and to make much of Him rather than oneself.
