What Does Acts 17:12 Mean?
The searching of verse 11 leads where honest searching leads: many of them believed. As in Thessalonica, the gospel reaches past the synagogue's core -- honorable women who were Greeks, and not a few men -- drawing a church from across the town's lines of rank and race.
The "therefore" carries the weight: this faith is the fruit of examined Scripture, not of pressure or spectacle. When the claims of Jesus are laid beside the words of the prophets, belief becomes a reasonable homecoming.
