Acts 17:33 Meaning and Explanation

The hearing ends without verdict or violence: Paul simply departs from among them. There is no riot as in Thessalonica, no beating as in Philippi -- only the quiet close of a sermon met with mockery, postponement, and, as the next verse reveals, faith.

There is a time to speak and a time to go. Paul has delivered the message faithfully; the outcome he leaves with God. The Lord's servants are responsible for clear witness, not for guaranteed results, and there is freedom in that division of labor. He walks down from the famous hill seemingly empty-handed -- but heaven was counting otherwise.
