Acts 2 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Jesus has gone back to heaven, but He promised to send a Helper. Today that promise comes true — with wind, fire, and a miracle of words.

Today's Story

Jesus had gone back to heaven, but He promised His friends, “Wait in the city — I'll send you a Helper.” So they waited and prayed together.

Then one morning, it happened! A sound like a rushing, mighty wind filled the whole house. And what looked like little flames of fire appeared over each person's head. God's Holy Spirit had come, just as Jesus promised!

Suddenly Jesus' friends could speak in languages they had never learned! They spilled out into the streets, and the city was full of visitors from many countries — and every single person heard the good news about Jesus in their own language! “How is this possible?” they marveled.

Then Peter stood up and preached to the huge crowd. He told them all about Jesus — how He died and rose again. “Turn to God,” Peter said, “and be baptized in the name of Jesus.”

That day, three thousand people believed in Jesus! The church — God's big family — was born. They shared meals, prayed together, helped each other, and grew and grew.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. God sent the Holy Spirit as a Helper. What's something hard you could ask God's Helper to help you with?
  2. Everyone heard about Jesus in their own language. Why is it good news that Jesus is for people of every country?
  3. The first church shared and helped each other. How could your family be like that big, loving family?
