What Does Acts 23:13 Mean?
Luke counts the conspirators: more than forty, enough to overwhelm a prisoner's escort in the narrow streets between the fortress and the council chamber.
Forty sworn men against one chained tentmaker looks decisive. But numbers weigh nothing against the purpose of God; one sentence spoken in the night (v. 11) outweighs every oath of man. "There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD" (Proverbs 21:30).
