What Does Acts 27:15 Mean?
The ship is caught by the gale and cannot turn its head into the wind to make any headway. There is nothing to do but give way and let the storm drive the vessel before it. All control is lost; they are carried wherever the tempest wills.
There come moments when human strength and skill simply fail, and we are 'driven' where we would not go. Such helplessness is humbling, but it is not hopeless. The same chapter that records the ship out of control records the angel's word of deliverance still to come. When we can no longer steer, the Lord has not ceased to govern, and 'he bringeth them unto their desired haven' (Psalm 107:30).
