What Does Acts 27:26 Mean?
Paul completes the angel's message with one more detail: they are bound to be wrecked upon some island. The deliverance will not spare them the shipwreck; they must pass through it. Safety lies on the far side of the very thing they dread.
God's promise of rescue did not promise an easy path. They would still be cast upon an unknown shore, still endure the breaking of the ship. So often the Lord brings us to safety not around the trial but through it. The certainty is not that we will be spared every hardship, but that 'when thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee' (Isaiah 43:2), and we will come out on the other side.
