Dreading that the ship might be dashed on unseen rocks in the darkness, the crew casts four anchors from the stern to hold her steady and prays for the dawn. They can do no more than hold their position and wait for the light to show them the way.
'Wished for the day' — what a picture of the waiting heart. They are anchored in darkness, danger all around, longing for morning. So the believer holds fast through the night of trial, anchored by hope, yearning for the light of God's deliverance. 'My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning' (Psalm 130:6). The anchors hold; the dawn will come.
