Strengthened by the meal, the crew makes a final preparation: they cast the remaining cargo of wheat into the sea to lighten the ship as much as possible, so she will ride high and run as far up the shore as she can when they attempt to beach her.
The very grain the ship was sailing to deliver is now sacrificed for the sake of the lives it carried. When survival is at stake, even the most valuable cargo goes overboard. The Lord would have us hold our possessions loosely, ready to let them go for what is of greater worth, and trust Him who provides our daily bread beyond every harvest we lose.
