What Does Acts 3:4 Mean?
Most worshippers passed the beggar without a glance, and beggars often called out without looking up. Peter stops. Luke says he fastened his eyes on him — a long, deliberate, attentive gaze — and asked the man to meet it: 'Look on us.'
Before any healing word is spoken, the man is seen. Attention is the first mercy. Jesus stopped for blind Bartimaeus by the Jericho road; now his apostles stop for a man the crowds had learned not to notice. Whoever feels passed over may take heart here: the gaze of heaven rests on the very person everyone else walks by. And being truly seen is itself the beginning of healing — it prepares the heart to receive.
