What Does Acts 7:46 Mean?
Stephen recalls the desire of David (2 Samuel 7; Psalm 132:4-5): a king at rest in his own house, restless until God had one.
God did not grant the building to David, but he treasured the desire: thou didst well that it was in thine heart (1 Kings 8:18). Heaven keeps account of holy longings even when the work falls to other hands. Wanting God honored is itself a gift that God honors.
