What Does Amos 3:2 Mean?
This is one of the book's pivotal sayings. To be "known" by God here means to be chosen, loved, and entered into covenant with, set apart from all the families of the earth. Israel might have assumed this meant exemption from judgment. The Lord says the opposite.
Greater nearness to God brings greater accountability, not less. The people He has known most intimately He will hold most responsible. This overturns every notion that being favored means being free to sin. Privilege is a trust, not a license.
