The list of warnings continues with agricultural disaster: scorching blight, mildew, and swarms of locusts that devoured the gardens, vineyards, fig and olive trees just as they flourished. The very abundance Israel trusted in was repeatedly destroyed. And once more: "yet have ye not returned unto me."
God touched the things His people loved and relied upon, hoping the loss would turn their hearts. But prosperity restored was simply enjoyed again, and adversity was simply endured, with no thought of the One behind it. The verse shows the patience of God in sending warning after warning.
