What Does Amos 9:7 Mean?
God asks a question that unsettles Israel's pride: "Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel?" Israel had assumed that being God's chosen people meant they could sin without consequence. Here God reminds them that He watches over every people, even the most distant. His care is not theirs to monopolize as a license.
He goes further: "Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?"
