What Does Daniel 11:28 Mean?
Laden with plunder, the king returns homeward, but his heart is now turned against 'the holy covenant', the sacred faith of God's people. He takes action against it, doing harm, before withdrawing to his own land. For the first time his enmity is aimed directly at the things of God rather than at a rival throne.
When the ambition of the powerful turns against the worship of God, the conflict moves to its deepest level. This is no longer a quarrel over borders but hostility toward the holy itself. Yet Scripture assures us that the covenant is 'holy', set apart and guarded by God, and the heart that rages against it rages in vain. Men may assault the faith, but they cannot abolish what God has sanctified.
