What Does Ephesians 1:6 Mean?
Three times in this passage Paul names the goal: 'to the praise of his glory.' God's saving work bends toward worship. The point of being chosen and adopted is finally that the splendor of His grace might be seen and celebrated forever.
We are 'accepted in the beloved' -- received not on our own merit but in Christ, the One the Father loves without measure. To be 'in the beloved' is to be welcomed in the embrace already given to the Son. Our acceptance rests on His belovedness, and that is a far surer ground than our own performance.
