What Does Ephesians 4:20 Mean?
With a sharp 'But,' Paul turns from the dark portrait to his readers: 'ye have not so learned Christ.' To know Christ is to learn a wholly different way of living. The old emptiness has no place in those who have come to know Him.
Notice the striking phrase: they 'learned Christ' -- not merely learned about Him, but learned Him. To be a Christian is to take Christ Himself as one's teacher and lesson. And what is learned in Him leaves no room for the futile, hardened life Paul has just described.
