Exodus 15 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Safe on the far side of the sea, God's people do the only thing that makes sense — they throw a party and sing.

Today's Story

On the far shore, free and dry and safe, God's people could hardly believe what God had done. So they burst into song! “The Lord is my strength and my song. He has saved me!”

Moses's sister, Miriam, grabbed a tambourine. All the women followed her, shaking tambourines and dancing by the water, singing as loud as they could about how great God is.

Then it was time to travel on. They walked into the desert. One day… two days… three days… and no water anywhere. Everyone was thirsty.

Finally they found a pool! They ran to drink — but the water was bitter and yucky. Nobody could drink it. The people grumbled. So Moses cried out to God.

God showed Moses a piece of wood and told him to throw it into the water. Moses did — and the bitter water turned fresh and sweet and good. Everyone drank until they were full.

And God made them a gentle promise: “I am the Lord who heals you.” The same God worth singing about was the God who would take care of them, all the way.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. God's people sang and danced because they were so thankful. What's a song you love to sing when you're happy?
  2. Right after the big celebration came a thirsty, hard day. Have you ever had a great day turn hard? What did you do?
  3. God turned the bitter water sweet. Is there something “bitter” or sad in your life that you could ask God to help with?
