Exodus 31 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Before the work begins, God does something surprising — He fills ordinary workers with His Spirit to make beautiful things, and He gives a gift of rest.

Today's Story

God had given all the plans for His tent. But who would build it all? God chose a man named Bezalel and gave him something special: “I have filled him with My Spirit, with skill and wisdom for every kind of craft — working with gold, cutting jewels, carving wood, weaving cloth.” God gave Bezalel a helper named Oholiab, and skilled hands to many others too.

Isn't that wonderful? God doesn't only fill people with His Spirit for praying and preaching — He fills artists and builders and makers too! Whatever good thing you're good at, your skill is a gift from God, and you can use it for Him.

Then God gave one more gift: rest. “Keep the Sabbath day,” God said. “Work six days, but the seventh is a day of rest, a gift from Me.” Even in the middle of a huge building project, God made sure His people would stop and rest.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. God gave Bezalel skill to make beautiful things. What's something YOU are good at? Did you know that's a gift from God?
  2. God fills all kinds of people — artists, builders, helpers — with His Spirit. How could you use what you're good at for God?
  3. God gave a gift of rest, the Sabbath. Why do you think rest is important? How does your family rest?
