Exodus 34 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God gives His people a fresh start with new tablets — and tells Moses His own name, which is full of kindness and mercy.

Today's Story

God gave His people a fresh start. “Cut two new stone tablets,” He told Moses, “like the first ones you broke, and come up the mountain again.” So Moses climbed up with the new stones.

And there, God did something amazing — He told Moses His own name, what He's really like deep down. God passed by and announced: “The Lord, the Lord — tender and kind, slow to get angry, overflowing with faithful love, forgiving wrong.”

That's who God is, at His very heart: loving, kind, patient, and full of mercy. Even right after the golden calf, that's how God described Himself — full of forgiving love.

God wrote His good words on the new tablets, and the fresh start was sealed.

When Moses finally came back down, his face was GLOWING — actually shining with light! He had been so close to God for so long that some of God's glory had rubbed off on his face. The people were amazed. Being with God had changed how Moses looked.
