Exodus 8 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God sends frogs, then gnats, then flies. Pharaoh starts to say yes — then keeps changing his mind.

Today's Story

“Let My people go,” God said again. Pharaoh said no again. So God sent frogs.

Frogs everywhere! Frogs in the houses, frogs in the beds, frogs in the bowls and the ovens. You couldn't take a step without a squish. Pharaoh finally called Moses. “Pray to your God to take the frogs away — and I'll let your people go!”

Moses prayed, and the frogs went away. But the moment Pharaoh felt better… he changed his mind. “No,” he said. His heart got harder.

So God sent tiny gnats, swarming over everything. This time even the magic men gave up. “This is the finger of God!” they told Pharaoh. But he wouldn't listen.

Then God sent thick swarms of flies — but not on the part of the land where God's people lived. God made a difference between His people and Pharaoh's. Again Pharaoh said, “Pray, and I'll let them go.” And again, the second he felt better, he broke his promise.

Every time Pharaoh said “later,” his heart got a little harder. But God kept right on being patient.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Pharaoh kept saying, “Later, later.” Is there something you know you should do that you keep putting off? What makes it hard to do it now?
  2. Every time Pharaoh broke his promise, his heart got a little harder. How can saying sorry — and meaning it — keep our hearts soft?
  3. Even in all the frogs and flies, God kept His people safe. When has God taken care of you in the middle of a mess?
