Ezekiel 26:20 Meaning and Explanation

Tyre will be brought 'down with them that descend into the pit'—cast down to join the ranks of destroyed cities and dead civilizations. 'The people of old time' refers to earlier great cities and empires that once dominated but are now remembered only as ruins and history lessons. Tyre, for all her power and arrogance, will join this procession of fallen pride. She will be placed 'in the low parts of the earth, in places desolate of old'—degraded to the level of ruined, abandoned places of antiquity.

The final phrase—'I shall set glory in the land of the living'—pivots from judgment to redemption.
