Ezra 10:30 Meaning and Explanation

The account continues with the sons of Pahath-moab, naming eight men: Adna, Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezaleel, Binnui, and Manasseh. This was a large and prominent family among the returned exiles, and a number of its members are recorded here as part of the reform.

That a leading family appears with so many names shows again that prominence offered no shelter from accountability. The well-known were named as plainly as the obscure. Throughout this record, status neither excuses sin nor bars repentance; the standard and the mercy are the same for all. God shows no partiality, and His people, when they are at their truest, reflect that even-handedness. Every household, great or small, stood under the same call to wholehearted faithfulness and was offered the same gracious path of return.
