What Does Ezra 6:19 Mean?
Soon after the dedication, the people observe the Passover at its set time. This feast recalled the night God spared Israel in Egypt and led them out of bondage. Now a people newly delivered from another captivity kept it again in their own land.
The Passover bound this generation to the great redemption of their fathers and to their own. God who once brought Israel out of Egypt had now brought them home from Babylon. For all who read it, the Passover lamb points forward to the Lamb of God, the deliverance to which every earlier rescue was leading.
