What Does Galatians 2:19 Mean?
Paul makes a startling claim: the law itself led him to die to the law. By exposing his need and pointing beyond itself, the law brought him to the end of trusting in law-keeping. He died to that whole approach to God.
But the death has a purpose: 'that I might live unto God.' This is not the loss of righteousness but the gateway to true life with God. Only by letting go of the old ground of standing could Paul find the living relationship the law could never give. Death to one thing made room for life in another.
