Galatians 3:20 Meaning and Explanation

Paul notes that a mediator stands between two parties; the very word implies a transaction with conditions on both sides. The law was given through such a mediator, framing a relationship of mutual terms.

But God is one, and the promise to Abraham came from God alone, freely given, depending on no party but himself. The promise rests on God's single, unconditioned faithfulness. Where the law involved a go-between and terms to keep, the promise flows straight from the one God who gives.
