What Does Galatians 4:18 Mean?
Paul grants that zeal itself is not wrong; it is good to be earnestly sought after, provided the cause is good. He does not condemn enthusiasm but its misuse. Rightly directed, eagerness for one another is a blessing.
And he adds that such genuine zeal should be constant, not only when he is there to see it. He longs for them to be steadfast in good things whether he is present or absent. True devotion to the gospel does not depend on who is watching.
