Genesis 6 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

The world has gone very wrong. But there's one man who still walks with God — and God is about to ask him to build something enormous.

Today's Story

A long time after the garden, the world was full of people — but they had become very cruel and had forgotten all about God. It made God's heart sad to see how mean people were to each other.

But there was one man who was different. His name was Noah, and Noah walked with God.

God told Noah His plan. “I am going to send a great flood to wash the world clean and start fresh. But I will keep you safe. Build a giant boat — an ark — big enough for your whole family and two of every kind of animal.”

God told Noah exactly how to build it: how long, how wide, how tall, with rooms inside and a door in the side. “Use good wood,” God said, “and cover it with tar so no water can get in.”

It was an enormous job. People probably laughed at Noah, building a giant boat on dry land where there wasn't any water for miles. But Noah trusted God. He picked up his tools and started to build — and he did everything God told him, exactly right.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. People probably thought Noah was silly for building a boat on dry land. Have you ever done the right thing even when others didn't understand?
  2. The Bible says Noah “walked with God.” What are some ways you could walk close to God each day?
  3. God gave Noah a really big job. What's a big job you could do, one step at a time, with God's help?
