What Does Hebrews 10:16 Mean?
Quoting Jeremiah's promise of the new covenant, the writer lets God speak in His own words. The Lord pledges to do something the old arrangement of stone tablets never could: to place His laws within the very hearts and minds of His people.
A law written on stone stands outside us, commanding from without; a law written on the heart becomes our own desire from within. This is the new covenant's deepest gift, an inward transformation by which obedience flows from love rather than mere duty. God Himself undertakes to do this writing. Through Christ, His will is no longer only above us but planted within, shaping us from the inside out.
