What Does Hebrews 11:15 Mean?
Continuing the thought of pilgrims seeking a country, the writer points out which country they were not seeking. Abraham and his family had left a real homeland behind and could have returned to it.
Had their hearts been set on the place they came from, the road back lay open to them. But they did not turn around, because their hope reached toward something better than what they had left. Faith does not look back to what was surrendered; it presses forward to what God has promised. The believer who keeps the eyes ahead is not tempted to retrace the steps that obedience required.
