What Does Hebrews 3:1 Mean?
After two chapters showing Jesus to be greater than the angels, the writer turns to address the readers directly as a family set apart for God. The word wherefore gathers up everything just said and presses it toward a single response: look at Jesus. He carries two titles here, Apostle and High Priest, that together frame the whole letter.
To call Jesus the Apostle is to say He is the one sent from God to make God known; to call Him High Priest is to say He carries us back to God. He bridges the distance from both sides. The invitation is simply to consider Him, to gaze steadily and thoughtfully on who He is, until the sight of Him steadies the heart.
