What Does Hosea 10:2 Mean?
The prophet names the root of the trouble: a divided heart. The people tried to keep the LORD and their idols at once, and a heart pulled two ways cannot stand. Because the worship was false, the Lord declares that the altars and sacred images themselves will be broken and stripped away.
A heart split between God and other masters is not richer for it but guilty, found wanting when tested. What we lean on for security, if it is not the living God, will be the very thing taken from us. Scripture calls us instead to love the Lord with an undivided heart, the single-minded devotion Jesus blessed when He said the pure in heart shall see God.
