What Does Hosea 11:10 Mean?
After mercy comes promise. God foresees a homecoming: the people will once again 'walk after the LORD.' His call is pictured as a lion's roar -- powerful, unmistakable, summoning rather than scattering. At that voice the scattered children will come hurrying back, even from far in the west.
The roar that once meant terror becomes the sound of gathering love. God's strength is bent toward bringing His people home, not destroying them. This is the hope held out beyond judgment: a Shepherd whose voice the sheep finally follow, drawing the wanderers back from every direction.
In the Original Language
shaag (שָׁאַג), 'roar' -- the deep cry of a lion, here a summons that calls the scattered home.
