What Does Hosea 8:9 Mean?
Ephraim, the leading tribe standing for the whole northern kingdom, sought safety by appealing to Assyria, the great power of the age. God likens them to a wild ass wandering off alone, willful and untamed, and then to one who hires lovers, paying tribute to a foreign power instead of trusting Him. They court the very empire that will consume them.
