Impulsive hearts gain wisdom; those who stumbled in speech find their voice.

Context

Isaiah now shifts from perception to understanding and speech. The vision extends to the transformation of character itself, reaching even the hasty and the inarticulate.

What Does Isaiah 32:4 Mean?

The rash—those who act before thinking, who speak before understanding—their hearts shall understand knowledge. This is not a rebuke but an invitation to transformation. Isaiah sees a future where even the foundationally hasty have been schooled in wisdom, where quick judgment gives way to discernment. And the stammerers, those whose speech is tangled and difficult, find clarity. They speak plainly, plainly being the mark of truth.

Jesus spent His ministry with stammerers and the tongue-tied—not just the physically mute but those silenced by shame, poverty, and fear. He gave voice to the voiceless and made disciples of fishermen and tax collectors who would go on to reshape the world with plain, bold witness. His presence untangles the tongue and steadies the hasty heart.

In the Original Language

dah'ah (דעה), 'knowledge' -- not mere information but true understanding, wisdom that sees things as God sees them.

Application

Where am I rash? Where am I silenced? The promise is that nearness to Christ transforms both. We are invited not to beat ourselves for our weaknesses but to place ourselves where His Spirit can reshape our hearts and loose our tongues.
