Read Full Chapter →Rather than responding with fear or diplomacy, Hezekiah takes Sennacherib's letter directly to God, laying it before Him in the temple.
Context
This is a written message this time, not an oral taunt. Hezekiah's response is to place the physical letter on the altar or before the presence of God, transforming it from a threat into a prayer.
What Does Isaiah 37:14 Mean?
There is profound simplicity in Hezekiah's action. He receives the letter. He reads it. He goes to the house of the LORD. He spreads it before Him. No strategizing, no cabinet meeting, no attempt to respond with counter-threats or negotiation. He places the letter in God's sight and leaves it there.
In spreading the letter before the LORD, Hezekiah does something remarkable. He makes the very threat a form of prayer. 'Here is what he says, LORD. You see it. You hear these words. I bring this to You.' The letter becomes an offering, a petition, a statement of trust that God sees and will respond.
Application
When faced with threats or impossibilities, we are invited to bring them directly into God's presence. Prayer is not a negotiation strategy. It is an act of trust that places our burden in His hands.
