Isaiah 41:26

Isaiah 41:26

Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? and beforetime, that we may say, He is righteous? yea, there is none that sheweth, yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that heareth your words.

God asks who among the false gods has ever declared events before they happened, establishing that only He demonstrates true righteousness through fulfilled prophecy.

Context

This verse reinforces God's case by pointing to the test of fulfilled prophecy as the true sign of divine authority and righteousness. Only God's words, spoken 'from the beginning,' come to pass.

What Does Isaiah 41:26 Mean?

The case is being closed now. Who has ever declared beforehand what was to come? Who has spoken the future into certainty from the beginning? So that we could look back and say, 'He is righteous; He told us truly.' The answer rings clear across the silence: none among the gods, none among the idols. There is no one who speaks and is heard, no one among your gods and authorities who can point to a word fulfilled.

We live in an age of many voices claiming authority. But notice what God is claiming: not merely power but righteousness demonstrated through reliability. He can be counted on because His words align with what comes to pass. This is the integrity we ultimately seek when we place our trust.

In the Original Language

sadiq (Hebrew), 'righteous' or 'just' -- points to a character that is morally right and dependable; righteousness proven through fidelity to word and promise.

Application

In a world of competing voices and claims, we can trust God because His track record is perfect. His words spoken ages ago continue to be fulfilled. This should increase our confidence that His promises to us will also come to pass.
