Context
The chapter concludes with Zion's complete transformation. The old names of shame are gone; the new names declare her sanctity, her redemption, her value to God, and her permanence in his heart.
What Does Isaiah 62:12 Mean?
Here is the full reversal, the complete renaming. They shall be called 'The holy people,' set apart, consecrated, clean. 'The redeemed of the LORD,' belonging wholly to him, purchased by his grace. And the city itself, the collective, will be known as 'Sought out,' meaning she was precious enough to search for, to pursue, to rescue from loss. And most poignantly, 'A city not forsaken,' the precise opposite of the name she carried in exile. She is not lost or abandoned or forgotten. She is wanted, sought, cherished, redeemed, holy.
We who trust in Christ claim all these names. We are the holy people, sanctified by his blood. We are the redeemed, purchased and ransomed. We are sought out, so valuable to God that he came searching for us. We are no longer forsaken; we are his beloved city, and he will never leave us or abandon us. These names define us now and forever.
In the Original Language
padah (פָּדָה), 'redeemed' -- purchased, ransomed, freed from bondage by the payment of a price
