The Lord stationing watchmen on Jerusalem's walls symbolizes divine protection, and they are commanded to intercede without ceasing for the city's full restoration.

Context

The image of watchmen stationed on walls evokes vigilance and defense. These watchmen, given voice to 'make mention of the LORD,' represent the church's intercessory role, never resting in prayer for the city and God's kingdom.

What Does Isaiah 62:6 Mean?

Watchmen on walls do not sleep. They keep their eyes open through the dark hours, alert to danger and change. But these watchmen do more; they are given the gift of voice, and they are commanded to make mention of the Lord, to speak his name, to hold before him the needs and destiny of the city. 'Never hold your peace day nor night' is both command and permission, an invitation to relentless intercession. The watchmen represent the praying remnant, those who refuse silence, who will not let the Lord rest until his city is fully redeemed.

We are those watchmen now, stationed on the walls of the kingdom, called to keep watch and to pray. Our silence is a dereliction of duty; our prayer is our most powerful action. We are not asked to be passive observers but active intercessors, speaking the Lord's name continuously, making mention of his glory and his promises, refusing the lull of comfort when redemption is not yet complete.

In the Original Language

shamar (שָׁמַר), 'set watchmen' -- to place, to station, to cause to keep guard; the watchmen are the guardians

What are you being called to keep watch over in prayer? Join the watchmen in interceding without silence for someone or some cause dear to God's heart.
