What Does Job 1:19 Mean?
The final blow is the heaviest. A great wind sweeps in from the wilderness, strikes the four corners of the house, and brings it down upon the young people, killing them all. The lone survivor escapes only to deliver the unbearable news to their father.
In a single day Job has lost his wealth, his servants, and now all ten of his children. The cascade is complete, and the reader holds its weight with him. There is no explaining away such grief. Yet the One who would Himself weep at a grave and conquer death meets us precisely here, in the place where loss is total, with a hope that even the grave cannot finally silence.
