What Does Job 12:19 Mean?
Continuing his hymn to God's power, Job says God leads princes away stripped and overthrows the mighty, the firmly established, the seemingly secure. Those most certain of their permanence are precisely those God can topple. No human strength is beyond His power to undo.
History's great and entrenched powers are not the final reality; God is. This humbles every confidence placed in might, wealth, or station, and it comforts all who feel crushed beneath such powers. The mighty are mortal and their dominion is on loan. The Lord who overthrows the proud also raises the humble, and in His justice the lowly will not be forgotten when the great are brought low.
